Yves Saint Laurent YSL (also known as Saint Laurent Paris), a luxury fashion house founded by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé. It is considered one of the world's most prominent fashion houses known for its modern and iconic pieces, such as tuxedo jackets for women. Timeline:
1960s to 1970s - The firm popularized fashion trends such as the beatnik look, safari jackets for men and women, tight pants and tall, thigh-high boots, Le Smoking suit among others. Some of his most memorable collections include the Pop Art, Ballet Russes, Picasso, and Chinese ones. He also started mainstreaming the idea of wearing silhouettes from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
1966 - Creation of arguably the most famous classic tuxedo suit for women, Le Smoking suit; first to popularize ready-to-wear in an attempt to democratize fashion, with Rive Gauche and a boutique of the same name.

1978 - Cosmetic line launch.
1980s, 1990s - Expansion with fragrances for both men and women.
1993 - Saint Laurent fashion house sold to the pharmaceuticals company Sanofi.
1997 - Pierre Bergé appointed Hedi Slimane as collections and art director and they relaunched YSL Rive Gauche Homme.

2002 - Because of health problems and critism of designs, Saint Laurent closed the couture house of YSL.
2009 - Closing of key stores in the US following Yves Saint Laurent's death.
2012 - Kering announced that Hedi Slimane replaced Stefano Pilati as the creative director. Slimane announced that the ready-to-wear line would be rebranded as Saint Laurent.

2015 - Hedi Slimane announced that he would be reviving Yves Saint Laurent's couture line.
The firm also popularized fashion trends such as pea jackets, sheer blouses, peasant blouses, bolero jackets, pantsuits, jumpsuits, etc.. By feminising the basic shapes of the male wardrobe, YSL set new standards for world fashion.
