Elements of design

I took up illusion (motion) as my main element of design and tried comparing with other elements through visuals.

My first take on illusion

From garments to fashion photography, these collages are of everything I felt was illusive.

Further, I looked into how illusion is used in garments with a few other elements of design, to enhance or hide ones features.

Illusion in garments
Dark/light colors and/or revealing slits on the sides of dresses and tops gives an illusion of a slimmer and leaner figure. It also uses the elements of design namely emphasis, contrast and balance.
Emphasis because one tends to focus on the center of the garment because of the contrast.
Contrast because of the striking difference between colors of the sides and center of the garment.
Balance because the garment is more or less symmetrical and gives a sense of overall balance.

Lines + Illusion and Rhythm + Illusion
The lines in garments using techniques such as gradient, overlapping, pattern mixing, etc. gives a sense of illusion. (left)

Lines used in a illusion pattern in way to provide visual flow gives rhythm. (right)

Layering + Illusion and Emphasis + Illusion
Layering helps hide ones body features which are ones problem areas. (left)

Emphasis via closer patterns, contrast, gradient, etc. helps accentuate ones good features and hide ones problem areas.
